Ever find yourself having to move awkward, heavy objects on a semi-regular basis?
Do you ever STOP to think about HOW YOU are moving whilst moving them?
Maybe you should. ;-)
Doing something badly some of the time is still not good. Repeatedly instilling good movement patterns and core sequencing is only going to encourage a healthy body.
I have to move this bollard in the video above each time I park my car at work, it is pretty heavy and awkward.
Next time you need to move something awkwardly heavy here are some tips for you:
1. get close to the object
2. move from your hips and not your back
3. take a good diaphragmatic breath by taking a sharp sniff through your nose to build Intra-Abdominal Pressure before you lift the object
4. Hold that breath whilst lifting and exhale as you've stood up
5. Don't forget steps 1-4 each time you find yourself having to lift an awkwardly heavy object! ;-)
